About the forum
Innovation is the primary driving force for development. Emerging technologies and industries are becoming important engines of economic growth and embodying unlimited potentials to address global grand challenges and sustainable development. Innovation-driven development and fostering of strategic emerging industries (SEI) are also key strategies of China, to which Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), the nation’s top engineering think tank, has attached great importance. CAE has been publishing strategic emerging industries development reports for years to pinpoint the roadmap of China’s strategic emerging industries, which have made very positive social impact. Meanwhile, Shanghai is striving to become a technical innovation hub with global influence, for which innovation and emerging industries development are critical factors. In this context, CAE and Shanghai Municipal Government (SMG), together with Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Commerce,Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) , will jointly host the International Forum on Innovation and Emerging Industries Development (IEID) with the theme of “Innovation - Empowering Emerging Technologies and Industries”. The aim of the event is to provide a forum to bring together leading experts from around the world to share insights in the frontiers and future directions of emerging industries underlain by disruptive technologies, to brainstorm ways for accelerating SEI development, and to pool wisdom to meet challenges and seize opportunities. Apart from IEID plenary keynote speeches on S&T innovation and emerging industries development, parallel sessions will be set up based on key areas of emerging industries, i.e. new generation information technology, biotechnology, cutting-edge equipment and new materials, green and low-carbon technology, and digitalized creative industry. Some 700 participants around the world are expected to attend this event. The forum is also one of the major events of China International Industry Fair (CIIF). CIIF, an event approved by the Union of international Fairs (UFI), is a leading event for equipment manufacturing in China as well as an important window and platform open to the world for international trade, communication and cooperation on industrial scope. Since its launch in 1999, CIIF has become one of the most influential international industry brand exhibitions in China, with “professionalization, marketization, internationalization and branding” as its strategies. We expect to make IEID a premium component of the annual CIIF since 2016 to create a top-level academic exchange platform for alignment between innovations and industries worldwide. The event will be co-chaired by Prof. XU Kuangdi, a prominent metallurgist and strategist, and Mr. YANG Xiong, Mayor and Party Head of Shanghai Municipal Government. Dr. Zhou Ji, an eminent expert in mechanical engineering and President of CAE, and Dr. C. D. Mote, Jr., also a renowned expert in mechanical engineering and President of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE), will act as the executive chairman. We hereby sincerely invite you to this grand event, and expect you to spread this information around your colleagues. We are looking forward to meeting you in Shanghai in early winter !(learn more)
